Lankan treat in Tokyo
TOKYO:The Sri Lanka Festival will be held in Tokyo’s Yoyogi
Park in Shibuya ward on May 26-27 from 10 am to 6 pm for the fourth
consecutive year.
The Sri Lanka Festival, a regular feature in the Tokyo events
calendar, provides the Japanese with a unique opportunity to experience
a taste of Sri Lanka in the heart of Tokyo.
The Festival is organised by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo with the
support of Japanese and Sri Lankan business communities and
organisations including SriLankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Sri
Lanka Tea Board, National Gem & Jewellery Authority, Sri Lanka Business
Council of Japan and the Sri Lanka Association in Japan.
The Festival is co-sponsored by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government,
Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan International Corporation
Agency (JICA), Japan Bank for International Corporation (JBIC), Japan
External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Shibuya Ward Office.
About 80 companies based in Japan and in Sri Lanka will participate
in the Sri Lanka Festival displaying and selling Sri Lankan products
exceeding 100 trading stalls. The Festival themed ‘Experience Nature’s
Best’ features the many natural attractions of Sri Lanka. A highlight of
the Festival is the chance to see spectacular cultural performances by
Channa and Upuli.
The Festival will also provide a unique opportunity for spectators to
view the making of elephant dung paper on site. The grand entrance to
the Festival is being designed and decorated with a traditional Sri
Lankan pandol by well-known Sri Lankan artist Kalasuri Jayasiri Semage.
The Festival will end on May 27 evening with a Sri Lankan musical
extravaganza featuring the country’s top singers and musicians. |
