SL Academy poised to win final game
CRICKET: The SL Academy was 232 runs ahead with 8 second innings
wickets standing at close of play on the 3rd days play and were in a
position to dictate terms going in to the fourth and final days play
today in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh continuing from their overnight score of 190 for 8 did
well to add another 81 runs for the last wicket in 105 minutes in the
morning session, this was mainly due to some aggressive batting by No. 9
batsman Ziaur Rahman 43, as they declared there 1st innings with the
score at 271 for 9.
The Sri Lankans began their second innings on a more positive note
than the 1st innings with a century partnership for the opening wicket
of (106) runs before Ian Daniel was unfortunately run out for a well
compiled 62 off 88 balls.
Chanaka Wijesinghe who joined opener Tharanga Paranawithana put on
another century stand of 104 runs for the second wicket before Chanaka
was caught at short leg for a quick fire 47.
Tharanga Paranawithana stood firm to be 92 not out at close, he
batted with much composure and played the ball to all parts of the
ground, he mixed aggression with caution in his chanceless innings.
The Sri Lankans will resume their innings tomorrow with the intention
of making a game of this and it will be interesting to see at what point
the declaration would be made with regard to setting a target for
Bangladesh to chase on the final day of the four day match which
incidentally is also the last day of Cricket in this series of matches.
