COLOMBO: The Court of Appeal issued notice on the Consumer Affairs
Authority (CAA) in a petition filed by Shell Gas Ltd. challenging the
CAA decision which had not sanctioned the request to raise the prices of
LP gas.
The Bench comprised Justices K. Sripavan and Eric Basnayake.
Petitioner Shell Gas Ltd. stated that the CAA had rejected the
petitioner’s request to raise the prices of the LP gas cylinders.
The petitioner stated that the CAA by its letter dated April 7, had
rejected its appeal to increase the prices of the 12.5 kg cylinder up to
Rs. 1,045 and 2.3 kg to Rs. 211.
The petitioner stated that the decision was unfair and unreasonable
since the cost of production of the LP gas had risen sharply.
The petitioner sought to quash the decision and to set aside the
letter dated April 7.
The petitioner cited the CAA, its Chairman Sarath Wijesinghe and
Acting Director General D.K.J. Amarasinghe as respondents.
President’s Counsel Fais Musthapha appeared for the petitioner.
The inquiry was fixed for July 2. |
