SLTB publishes guide book
PUBLICATION: The official launch of a book titled a
“Comprehensive Guide To Information On Sri Lanka” published by the Sri
Lanka Tourist Board, written by J. F. Ranjith Perera, a former Director
General of the Board, will be held today (11) 4 p.m. at the Sri Lanka
Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management, Colombo 03. The chief guest
on this occasion will be the Minister of Tourism Milinda Moragoda.
Prior to visiting a destination or after arrival at the destination,
most travellers like to obtain information in regard to matters relating
to the objective of their visit or would like to undergo new
experiences.
Hence providing authentic and accurate information to a foreign
visitor must be one of the most important aspects of the services
provided to these visitors.
Accordingly, in addition to the tourist publications hitherto
undertaken by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, it decided to compile a book
containing comprehensive information on things and places of touristic
interest in Sri Lanka.
The book is categorised into two main sections with the first section
deals with general information covering a variety of subjects relating
to the island’s geography, history, social profile, the system of
government, the economy, banking and financial systems investment legal
systems, indigenous medical practices and other important aspects of
general interest.
Section two of the book provides information on places and things of
touristic interest in Sri Lanka.
Descriptions in respect of places and things of interest under each
of the above categories are provided for the information of the foreign
visitors.
The book is intended to be “one reference book” containing
information for foreign visitors with diverse interests. The questor
visitor could undertake further studies and investigations using the
references listed in the bibliography in respect of each of the subjects
dealt with in the book.
The publication is also intended to be used as a book containing
comprehensive information on Sri Lanka by the front office staff of
hotels, establishments providing supplementary accommodation, travel
agents, tour planners and operators, those providing guiding services
and students following training courses in Tourism and Hospitality
Management. |
