COLOMBO: The Patriotic National Movement (PNM) will carry an
islandwide protest campaign against the behaviour of the British
Government towards Sri Lankan issues, PNM Chairman Dr. Gunadasa
Amarasekara said at a news briefing.
He said, the country is facing a huge threat from imperialists as
never before today and it has gone to the extent of some American
representatives requesting President George Bush to send an envoy to Sri
Lanka to intervene into Sri Lankan problems.
"Now they are not satisfied with the ethnic problem and capitalising
on human rights violations and lack of media freedom which is not true,"
Amarasekara said.
He said, ambassadors in Sri Lanka are behaving like policemen by
going to media institutes and inquiring about their media freedom which
is not acceptable. He requested them not to interfere into the integrity
of the country.
He criticised the arrival of Richard Boucher in Sri Lanka and the
establishment of an organisation called "All Party Group for Tamils". He
pointed out that LTTE sympathisers have proposed to commence peace talks
where it was stopped in 2002 forgetting the victories achieved after
that.
"Now they are planning to get down the LTTE to London to give a
speech in the British Parliament purely to get an opportunity to enter
the country as they have no legal right to enter, Dr. Amarasekara said.
