Whatmore quits as Bangladesh coach

QUITS: Dav Whatmore, the coach of Bangladesh Cricket team, has quit as Bangladesh’s coach, deciding against renewing his contract with Bangladesh Cricket Board, which expires at the end of April 2007.

Earlier, Dav Whatmore showed his interest to be the coach of Indian team as Greg Chappell, the coach of Indian team, submitted his resignation after dismal performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.

Bangladesh Cricket Board did not take easily the comments of Dav Whatmore as his statement could affect the morale of the team. Whatmore, however, agreed to remain in charge until the end of May, to allow Bangladesh Cricket Board to find and appoint a new coach to guide the side through the Test and ODI series at home to India.

Whatmore was appointed coach of Bangladesh team in 2003. Later, he led Bangladesh team to achieve some successes in his tenure. Bangladesh team beat India and South Africa in the current World Cup.
