Sailors confront LTTE cadres at Kuchchaweli

TRINCOMALEE: Navy ground troops repulsed an attack causing heavy casualties to LTTE cadres last morning in Kuchchaweli area, north of Trincomalee. Three sailors were killed in this attack, the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) said.

According to a spokesman for the MCNS, the Navy patrol detected a group of Tiger cadres moving towards the Kuchchaweli area in Peraru- Sempimalai yesterday morning.

“The confrontation began as the Tiger cadres fired at the sailors,” he added. Meanwhile, two LTTE cadres including a senior LTTE leader were killed by the Security Forces at the Mannar-Vavuniya Forward Defence Line in Madhu area on Thursday evening.
