US report on reducing hospital costs

COLOMBO: How hospitals could save costs of patient care in the surgical units by reducing post-operative infections by using medical nutritions on patients has now been established, following a US study on medical nutrition in patient care.

The report of this study has been sent to health authorities in the developing countries, including Sri Lanka. According to the Study report cost saving per patient that has been made in the states is $ 1,400 per hospitalisation.

In hospitals with an infection rate of 20 per cent among surgery patients, use of medical nutrition yields cost savings of about $ 1,400 per hospitalised patient. The report is being studied by the Heath Ministry, ministry sources told the Daily News.
