Kramski invests Rs. 200m on major factory expansion

INVESTMENT: A German based multinational, Kramski Lanka (Pvt) Limited (KLPV), will invest Rs. 200 million in a major factory expansion at the Katunayake Free Trade Zone.

The company’s core business is designing, manufacturing high precision plastic injection moulds for major international companies, sources said.

Based on the requirement of the customers they supply moulding engineering components, insert/over moulded components and manufacturing stamping tools and spares for leading companies including Bosch, Hella, Sia burgess.

These are some of the leading names, its Deputy General Manager S.A.S. Gunawardena said.

He said their products are supplied to Mercedes Benz Company in Germany through Bosch. It also exports their products to major European and US car market manufacturers that are designed and manufactured in their factory at Katunayake. The company has manufacturing plants in USA and Sri Lanka as well.

The expansion of Sri Lankan operations in Sri Lanka the company took over a factory at the Free Trade Zone adjoining the existing plant and renovated the building extensively and will open the factory towards the end of this month, he said.

With the expansion of the factory it would add additional 600 square feet for the existing plant, which is now 1600 square feet.

The total investment for this major project is Rs 500 million with the new investment, he said.

Further, it also designed and manufactured a world-class golf putter that was ranked as the best in a competition in USA.

They are also planning to sponsor a leading golf player for an international tournament, he said.

Since the parent company is based in Germany it has got a major battery charger order from Israel and KLPV was warded to design and manufacture cases for the battery charger here, he said.

Gunawardena said they are planning to open up a fully-fledged Kramski Technical Training Centre for young Sri Lankans to be trained as machinists with local and foreign expertise and finally on successful completion of the training will be absorbed to the permanent cadre at Kramski.
