Abacus ties with tourist Board

TRAINING: Abacus, Asia Pacific's No.1 Global Distribution System (GDS) is proud to be associated with the Sri Lanka Tourist Board as the official GDS provider to facilitate exclusive training on the Abacus reservation system for students following the Diploma in Tourism and Hotel Management conducted by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board.

This Diploma in tourism and hotel management is aimed especially at freshers or newcomers to the industry who are interested to pursue a career in the tourism industry.

The Diploma course study covers many areas which include Airline geography, Communication (Methods and Modes, Interline, CRS, GDS, Internet), Basic Reservations (Outlines of Revenue Management), The role of International Air Transportation Association (IATA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) among other modules.

"Abacus often engages in facilitating training for the industry by means of its regular training sessions conducted for its travel agency customers. A dedicated training team manages this function since at Abacus we consider training to be a top priority.

In addition we do also work closely with the Travel Agent's Association of Sri Lanka (TAASL) by being the official GDS training facilitator in its training programmes for students. Therefore this association with SLTB is another milestone," a statement from Abacus International Lanka (Pvt) Ltd said.

Commenting on the SLTB alliance with Abacus GDS for exclusive training, Dr. S.K. Premarathna (PhD) Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management (SLITHM) had this to say, "Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) conducts Diploma courses in Travel and Tourism Management Programmes for which Abacus provides training for all our students on the Abacus Computerised Reservation system which forms a major component of this programme.

By this, students gain knowledge on the entire process right from making a reservation to ticketing of Air segments. This will enable them to enter the travel industry and find very good employment opportunities. On behalf of Sri Lanka Tourist Board and also Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management I should say that Abacus is doing a great service to SLITHM and also to the whole country in developing the required human resources in the Travel and Tourism Industry."

Abacus International Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. based in Colombo is a joint venture between Abacus International (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. and Softlogic Holdings (Pvt) Ltd.
