Tharindu, Naduni, Yonali steal the limelight

TABLE TENNIS: Tharindu Prabath (Tholangamuwa Central College), Naduni Surasinghe (Southlands College, Galle) and Yonali Dullawa (Mahamaya College, Kandy) stole the limelight by winning two titles each at the Wellawatta Sports Club organised All Island Intermediate and Novices Table Tennis championship 2007 worked off at S. Thomas’ College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia, recently.

Tharindu Prabath clinched his two tiles winning the under 21 boys singles and the novices mens singles. He beat M.Siraj (Trinity College) in the under 21 boys singles final and also defeated Amila Dananjaya (Kingswood College) to win the novices mens singles title.

Meanwhile Naduni Surasinghe emerged champion in the under 12 girLs singles when she overcame her teammate Yogya Gamage who finished as runner up. Surasinghe also went on to win the under 15 girls singles after beating Dinithi Kariyawasam (Girls High School, Kandy).

Yonali Dullawa was the other top performer of the tournament as she took both the under 18 and under 21 girls singles titles. Dullawa beat Nimshi Kavindya (Girls High School, Kandy) to take the under 18 title and also beat her teammate Danushika Gunawardane to win the under 21 title.

The Results: (Boys singles) Under 8- Champion: Vishwa Senanayake (Dharmashoka College, Ambalangoda), Runner up- Savindu Jayasekara (Vidyartha-Kandy)

U 10- Champion: Udaya Ranasinghe (Vidyartha), Runner up: M.P.Chamathpriya (Royal)

U 12- Champion: Shehan Chanaka (Devanada-Ambalangoda), Runner up: Udaya Ranasinghe (Vidyartha)

U 15- Champion: Rasika Manoj (Anura Central College, Yakkala), Runner up: Dilush Ranatunga (Royal)

U 18- Champion: M.K.M.Suhail (Kingswood), Runner up: Mithsen Kusumsiri (Lalith Athulathmudali College, Mt.Lavinia)

U 21- Champion: Tharindu Prabath (Tholangamuwa CC), Runner up: M.Siraj (Trinity)

Intermediate mens singles- Champion: Dilan Amaratunga (Kingswood), Runner up: Y.D.Pitigala (Kingswood)

Novices mens singles- Champion: Tharindu Prabath (Tholangamuwa CC), Runner up: Amila Dananjaya (Kingswood)
