Dhammika Perera, BOI Chairman

APPOINTMENT: Leading entrepreneur Dhammika Perera has been appointed Chairman, Board of Investments. He succeeds Prof Lakshman Watawela. Perera who was a member of the BOI for the last two years has several controlling shaves in many companies. (SS)

Market gains marginally

STOCK MARKET: Market gained marginally as it opened after the holiday season yesterday. The ASPI moved up by 0.69 percent while the MPI moved up 0.71 percent. The total turn over for the day was 210,943,491 while the volume was 5.926,141. Carson’s shares saw a sharp increase of Rs. 50.

Sri Lanka Telecom, which was at one time trading around Rs. 43 and slipped to below 38, also moved up and showed sings of moving up further as a result of speculation that it was to be bought by a Malaysian company.
