Australian support for local rural communities
Funds: The Acting Australian High Commissioner, Dr Matthew Hyndes,
presented funds worth over Rs 4 million to five local organisations
under the High Commission’s Direct Aid programme (DAP) in a ceremony on
April 11.
DAP projects have benefited female headed households, children, the
disabled, the elderly and the rural poor, among others.
In this funding round, Dr Hyndes presented funds to Eastern Relief
and Rehabilitation Organisation in Ampara in order for it to build 25
toilets and three wells; the Centre for Handicapped in Kandy for the
provision of 52 artificial limbs; the ‘Diriya’ Women’s Development
Society in Anuradhapura for the construction of four wells; the Uva
Farmer’s Development Foundation in support of income generation
projects; and the Foundation of Goodness in Seenigama for the
construction of a visiting accommodation centre for youth. |
