Rain interrupts semi-finals, replays on Monday

CRICKET: Heavy rain forced a replay to the inter school knock out limited overs cricket tournament semi-final matches at the NCC grounds in Maitland Place and Braybrooke Place yesterday.

S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia were struggling at 63 for 2 chasing St. Sebastian’s formidable total of 236 runs when bad weather intervened in the semi-final fixture played at the NCC ground in Maitland Place.

The Peterites too were in a spot of trouble as they collapsed to 66 for 4 chasing Prince of Wales’ modest total of 162 runs when rain halted play in this match too at Braybrooke Place.

The tournament committee of the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association decided to replay both these games on Monday. St. Peter’s College will meet Prince of Wales again at Mount Lavinia while the clash between St. Sebastian’s College and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia will be worked off at Bambalapitiya.

The final is scheduled for Wednesday and the venue most probably will be the NCC grounds, Maitland Place. Earlier the final was scheduled for Sunday at the SSC grounds.

Chief scores:

At Braybrooke Place:

Prince of Wales: 162 in 39.3 overs (R. Thirimanna 39, G. Gayanth 47, S. Peiris 23, P. Silva 24, L. Rodrigo 4 for 42, C. Fernando 3 for 14)

St. Peter’s: 66 for 4 in 21.5 overs (S. Wijeratne 18, I. Gunasena 2 for 26).

At Maitland Place:
