10 kg claymore found inside Wattala boutique

WATTALA: A claymore mine weighing 10 kgs was found by police inside a boutique near Gemunu Cinema, Wattala following information provided by an alert civilian.

According to police, seven suspects including a female, were arrested from the Wattala area following a search operation by police and Army soon after the detection. One suspect arrested was a native from Jaffna who failed to prove his true identity while the rest are from Modera and Mattakkuliya areas.

The Army Bomb Disposal Unit defused the claymore mine.

Defence authorities have called upon the public to be extra vigilant during the upcoming festive season and report any unusual activity or the presence of strangers to the nearest police station.
