Four LTTE camps captured

BATTICALOA: Four Tiger camps including the Nivarthanam Base and three satellite camps were captured by the Security Forces engaged in a humanitarian operation west of Batticaloa on Monday evening, Military Spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinghe said yesterday.

He said the Nivarthanam base and the three satellite bases located eight kilometres north-west of Kokkadicholai has been used to launch mortar attacks on civilians in Batticaloa. These mortar locations were taken under Security Forces control during this operation.

The Security Forces recovered two backhoes, one Mercedes Benz lorry and a van used for propaganda purposes for recruiting youth for the LTTE. A paddy store was also recovered from these camps.

The Security Forces also retaliated a major LTTE attack on Monday in the area north of Unnachchiya and south of Rukan area killing 23 LTTE cadres.
