Allegations against Govt baseless, unfounded
Second Interim Report submitted:
COLOMBO: The allegations levelled against the Government on
abductions, disappearances and murders are baseless, said former High
Court Judge Mahanama Thilakaratne, Chairman of the One Man Presidential
Commission, appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to inquire into
allegations of abductions, disappearances and murders in the country.
After submitting the Second Interim Report of the Presidential
Commission to the President a few days ago, the Chairman of the
Commission said that the allegations directed at the government were
baseless and unfounded.
The Commissioner’s report has disclosed that according to its
findings, such allegations pertained to people who have voluntarily gone
into oblivion by reason of their going abroad or gone into hiding in
order to achieve their personal objectives thereby bringing discredit to
the police and the Armed Forces.
The Two-man Commission appointed to inquire into the assassination of
Joseph Pararajasingham also submitted its final inquiry report to the
President on the same occasion, a press release from the President’s
