Troops kill four Tigers, recover weapons cache

BATTICALOA: Four LTTE cadres were killed and a cache of weapons and explosives recovered by the STF last morning following a confrontation with the Tigers in Wellaveli, Batticaloa, the Media Centre for National Security said.

An STF foot patrol came under LTTE attack yesterday at around 5.30 a.m. in Wellaveli. The STF successfully repulsed the attack forcing the Tiger cadres to flee the area, an MCNS spokesman told the Daily News.

He said in a subsequent search operation, troops recovered bodies of four LTTE cadres, a T56 assault rifle, two magazines, a claymore mine, two detonators, four hand grenades and a communication set. Meanwhile, the Tiger cadres triggered a claymore mine targeting STF foot patrols last morning in Mankadu, Batticaloa near Kattapillayar Kovil.

According to the spokesman, an STF foot patrol attached to Chettikulam camp came under an LTTE claymore mine attack yesterday at around 9.10 a.m. in Mankulam.
