Lankan Karatekas leave for Japan

KARATE: The 21st Wado Kai Karate Sugiura Rensei Juku International
Championship will be held in Hamamatsu City, Japan on 18 March. National
Karatekas Pasindu Nirmana Karunanayake and Prashan Chanaka Wijayadasa
are in also the Sri Lanka team.
Chief Instructor and President Jayasiri Perera too take part in the
over 50 age category in Karate Kumite Competition. He previously has won
second place in Kumite event in this international tournament.
Pasindu Nirmana Karunanayake, who is the Junior National Champion, is
taking part in this event of the third time. He is an Advanced Level
student of Ananda College.
Prashan Chanaka Wijayadasa is an undergraduate in the IT Faculty of
the Australian Business Management School, is a national level
competitor and is a fresher on this tour.
In this international championship, over thousand participants are to
take part from all over the world, and this is considered to be a very
big event in the field of Karate, and all those who involved in Karate
are much focused their attention to this event.
Kengo Sugiura Rensei Juku who passed away mid last year and was the
chief instructor of the Japan Wado Kai Karate Do Federation, and the Sri
Lanka branch of the said Federation.
This is the first championship to be held to respect him after the
demise of this great karateka of Japan.
In parallel with this competition, Japanese officials have organised
karate training camps and seminars from March 15th to April 3rd.
Dhammika K. Ariyaratne joined the team as the Manager, which left the
island yesterday. |
