Navy transports another 1000 civilians to Trinco

TRINCOMALEE: One thousand civilians from Jaffna reached Trincomalee on Tuesday under the protection of the Sri Lanka Navy disregarding the LTTE terrorist threat on civilians, a Navy Spokesman told the Daily News yesterday.

The Spokesman said Jet Liner carrying 1,000 civilians from Jaffna reached Trincomalee safely Tuesday morning. So far the Navy had transported 11,086 civilians from and to Jaffna peninsula after the closure of the A-9 road in August last year.

The LTTE has made several abortive attempts to disrupt the civilian transportation by ships to exert more pressures on the Government for the opening of the A-9 road to Jaffna since it had become a disadvantage for them.
