Sukitha wins three titles

TABLE TENNIS: Sukitha Wickkramanayake (Dharmaraja College, Kandy) won three titles at the 60th Junior National Table Tennis championship which got underway at the S.Thomas’ College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia, recently.

The championship was organised by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka.

He clinched his first title by winning the under 15 boys singles by defeating Dulan Nakandala in a four setter final (3-1).

Wickkramanayake overcame his team mate Gihan Liyanage in a gruelling five sets in the under 18 boys grand final (3-5).

Sukitha Wickkramanayake partnered by his team mate G.M.Liyanage outclassed Buddhika Walagampola (Royal) and his counterpart Sajith Kavinda (St.Benedict’s) in under 18 boy’s doubles final match in straight sets (3-0).

The national womens champion Srimali Wimalaratne (Holy Family Convent, Kurunegala) was the other top performer of the event by winning under 18 girl’s doubles event along with mixed doubles.

Ishara Madurangi (Devananda) ousted Ruhansi Wijekoon (Maliyadeva BMV) convincingly in straight sets and emerged girl’s under 18 champion (3-0).

Under 10 Boys Singles- Kulanaka Asel Hendahewa (Royal) beat W.G.M.Bhanuka Gamage (Royal) 11/7, 11/6, 11/7.

Girls- Umaya Thrakie (Dharmashoka, Ambalangoda) beat Kushini Ransara (Dharmashoka) 11/8, 11/9, 11/8

Under 12 Boys Singles- Hashintha Sashiranga (Dharmashoka) beat Imantha Udanjaya (Dharmashoka) 7/11, 11/5, 11/6, 11/3.

Girls- Nuwani Navodya Withnage (Dharmashoka) beat Kavindi Halkewela (Southland Girls’ College, Galle) 11/9, 11/9, 11/8

Under 15 Boys Singles- Sukitha Wickkramanayake (Dharmaraja) beat Dulan Nakandala (Royal) 11/7, 8/11, 11/7, 11/9.

Girls- Dinusha Manoji (Devananda, Ambalangoda) beat Tharunya Sashini (Devananda) 11/7, 14/12, 12/14, 11/9

Under 18 Boys Singles- Sukitha Wickkramanayake (Dharmaraja) beat G.M.Liyanage (Dharmaraja) 11/8, 9/11, 4/11, 11/9, 11/7

Girls- Ishara Madurangi (Devananda) beat Ruhansi Wijekoon (Maliyadeva Girls’ College, Kurunegala) 11/8, 11/9, 11/8.

Under 18 Boys Doubles- Sukitha Wickkramanayake/ G.M.Liyanage (Dharmaraja) beat Buddhika Walagampola (Royal)/ Sajith Kavinda (St.Benedict’s College, Colombo) 11/8, 11/7, 12/10

Girls- Srimali Wimalaratne/ Jayamali Udagedara (Holy Family BMV, Kurunegala) beat Ishara Madurangi/ Dinusha Manoji (Devananda) 18/16, 11/7, 11/6.

Under 18 Mixed Doubles- Srimali Wimalaratne (Holy Family BMV, Kurunegala) and G.M.Liyanage (Dharmaraja) beat Ishara Madurangi and Chatura Viskam (Devananda) 3/11, 11/9, 11/5, 11/6
