Commonwealth Day celebrations begin today

MAHARAGAMA: Ceremonies to mark Commonwealth Day will be held at the Maharagama National Youth Centre from March 12 to 14 jointly organised by the Youth Affairs Ministry and the National Youth Services' Council.

Eighty young girls and boys from India, Brunai, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives, Malaysia, Singapore and Sri Lanka will participate.

The inaugural ceremony will be held today at 5.00 p.m. Youth Affairs Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Highways Development Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Ministry Secretary S. Wirithamulla, NYSC Chairman Bhaswara Senanka Gunaratne will also participate.

The programme includes cultural show, an exhibition and a variety show.

A field tour will be held on March 14.
