Murali-Vaas Trophy not awarded

CRICKET: The Muralitharan - Vaas Challenge Trophy which was on offer for the first time for the inter-school cricket encounter between St. Anthony's College and St. Joseph's College was not awarded as the match ended in a draw at Katugastota on Saturday.

Only the side registering an outright victory could take the trophy.

This match will be best remembered for the lightning knock of 110 by St. Anthony's College opener Gimhan Dissanayake who hit 21 fours and a six in a 81 ball stay at the wicket. He reached his hundred in 75 balls.

He was associated in a second wicket stand of 120 with Jerome Siegertsz (34) Angelo Mathews too sparkled for the Josephians by scoring 108 with 10 fours and 4 sixes and also captured 3 for 30. Anton Livera batted brightly to score 81 with 8 fours, 3 sixes in 74 balls.
