Sandasen Marasinghe
COLOMBO: Colombo High Court Judge Thilak Thabrew yesterday released
Chairman of the Director Board of Jayawardanapura Hospital, Gunamuni
Chandima Sudam de Silva from bribery charges.
The Court released him from the charges when the Commission to
Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption submitted that the
Bribery Commission would not continue the case.
The Bribery Commission indicted de Silva for allegedly accepting an
incentive of Rs 82,000 from Deputy Manager (Business Development) of
Pramuka Bank Pinteru Ralalge Don Antony Joseph Riancy to deposit money
belonging to the Jayawardanapura Hospital.
De Silva allegedly had accepted the incentive in 2000.
The Bribery Commission on an earlier date too informed the court that
the commission found it difficult to prove the cases based on the
evidence by the main witness since some other cases the High Court
judges had observed that the court could not trust his evidence.
Attorney Krishantha Fernando appeared for the defence while Attorney
Ruwani Wickramasinghe appeared for the Bribery Commission. |
