15 held in police swoop

MORATUWA: Over 15 suspects were arrested after failing to prove their identities by Mount Lavinia police at Soyza Road Moratuwa, SSP Willie Abeynayake said.

According to SSP Abeynayake, the search operation was carried out on Wednesday night at Soyza Road, Moratuwa. Around 300 houses were searched in the swoop. Most of those detained were from the North and East.

The SSP said more than 140 police officers were deployed in the operation. Meanwhile, Moratuwa Traffic police arrested 37 persons for driving under the influence of liquor and other traffic offences.
