Loss of libido

ROMANCE: Britain may have ruled the waves in its heyday but it has not made any headway on the libidinous front. At least this is what a survey had indicated. Although romance is in the air some British men have made a Valentine Day’s admission that they are no know-it-all casanovas and are taking secret lessons in spicing their love lives.

According to women interviewed in the survey British men have no clue on what is expected and are clumsy lovers dithering in foreplay.

This certainly is rich coming from a country known for its permissive culture not to mention the adventurist spirit of its men which sowed their wild oats in their former colonies.

What is it that has happened down the ages to make British men ‘to hold their gun’ so to speak. Is the new phenomenon a fall out from the Victorian era. Or is it the typical British phlegm that keep its men from going the whole hog.

Or is it well known the stiff upper lip which keeps them venturing out into more explicit sexual escapades. Are we to then conclude that all those ardent love making scenes in the English movies are just that -acting- and nothing more.

For all we know sex symbols such as Sean Connery and Michael Cain may be just drabs and not the hot blooded British male hunks they are portrayed to be.

The phenomenon could also be attributed to the Bulldog in the British who may not want to display his full repertoire. Still if the story is true Britain may turn out to a be a dull place to visit at least for the fun loving women.

They may head for Paris where it is said the men are as robust as ever. The dwindling libidos may also be partly responsible for the plummeting fortunes of the English cricketers in recent times. For it may be said one bereft of the sex drive may also be poor in executing a cover drive.

The sexual reticence on the part of British men may also cause concern in Government circles in Britain which introduce the concept “make love not war”.

They may have reason to fear that the coldness on the part of its males in matters sex may extend to spawning a culture of indifference, lethargy disregard and callousness in the larger British society. There would be calls for sex counselling for males in order to top the tempo and make them more aware of their duty to go forth and multiply.

For if the trend continues there is bound to be drastic drop in true British blood and the danger of a heavy infusion of hybrids - what with British men groping in the dark in matters of love.
