Government committed to fulfill nation's expectations

URUBOKKA: Mahinda Chinthana has laid a firm foundation for a
fresh revaluation in the political, economic and social spheres of this
country. Therefore, it has received the blessings of the masses and
academics belonging to all ethnic communities, said Southern Provincial
Council Minister of Land, Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock
Development Hemal Gunasekara.
The Minister was speaking at a public meeting after laying the
foundation stone for the proposed weekly fair. He also declared open the
new super market complex at Urubokka.
"Irrigation and Agriculture are vital sectors that must be developed
to maintain a sustainable economic growth. We are aware of the hopes and
aspirations of the people. The government is committed to fulfill the
nation's hopes exercising all the powers vested on them by the masses,
"the Minister said.
"We are committed to our action plan as well as monitoring our
progress. Renovation of the dilapidated weekly fair, construction of the
Urubokka Pola and various other public utilities are anticipated to be
completed by the turn of the current year, "Hemal Gunasekara said.
It was estimated that the cost of the construction is Rs. 30.5
million, and Southern Province Rural Advancement Project funded the
project. Apart from providing basic infrastructural facilities,
marketing facilities for local produce will be boosted for the benefit
of the cultivators in Urubokka and surrounding villages.
They are the key objectives of the programme.
Eswarage Mahinda, Chairman, Pasgoda Pradeshiya Sabha, said that many
community development projects are in progress in the Pasgoda Prsdeshiya
Sabha area, and high priority will be given to renovations of Moratuwa -
Panakaduwa road.
Southern Provincial Commissioner of Local Government S. Maskorala and
several others also spoke. |
