LTTE had laid landmines in and around Ampara Cemetery - STF
COLOMBO: The Headquarters of the Special Task Force of Sri
Lanka Police in a media release yesterday categorically denied the LTTE
allegation over the Voice of Tigers radio channel on February 10 that
the Government Forces destroyed a cemetery found in the jungle area of
Kanchikudichchi-aru, Ampara, in the course of the "Niyathai Jaya"
operation launched on January 04 this year.
The media release while admitting the "Niyathai Jaya" Operation
launched on January 04 stated that in the course of the operation an
LTTE cemetery was found in the jungle area of Kanchikudichchi-aru on
January 06, and the cemetery still stands in the same condition as it
was found on January 06.
But the cemetery and its immediate environment was infested with
landmines buried by the LTTE as an insult to the souls buried there.
The Special Task Force has won the good will of the Eastern people
for its civilized behaviour and has never engaged itself in unethical
activities such as insulting the dead.
The cemetery is open for any unbiased credible agent for inspection
whether any damage has been caused as alleged by the LTTE, the media
release stressed.
The STF will soon release to the media a photograph of the cemetery
taken on February 11, it assured. |
