Assault on TV producer condemned

COLOMBO: Journalists attached to the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation strongly condemned the attack on their colleague TV producer Siddhartha Withanachchi by a senior official attached to the Livestock Development Board in Narahenpita on Friday.

They also urged the relevant authorities to take disciplinary action against the officer for the brutal assault on the TV producer.

The TV producer who was hospitalised on Friday due to the assault by the officer was discharged yesterday after undergoing treatment for two days.

According to sources the Rupavahini TV producer has been assaulted by the said officer when he questioned the LDB official as to why he had knocked against his vehicle while overtaking.

The official had assaulted the TV producer thrice even after he introduced himself to the official as a Rupvavahini producer. Siddhartha Withanachchi, the TV producer, has lodged a complaint in this regard with the Narahenpita Police.
