Good education creates good citizens - Education Minister

COLOMBO: Government officers and politicians are not the
owners of their institutions but the guardians and they are duty bound
to serve the general public, said the Education Minister Susil
Premajayantha at the official ceremony of assuming duties.
Minister Premajayantha assumed duties at the Ministry of Education at
the "Isurupaya" on Wednesday 7 amid a large number of well wishers and
staff officers.
Since the Ministry of Education had been performing its duty
successfully according to the Mahinda Chintana, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa reappointed him as the minister to carry forward the good
work, Premajayantha said.
"We got a fine start but the work we have done is limited. We have to
complete many tasks" the Minister said.
The Ministry has to work not only on building new buildings and
enrolling new students to schools. The Ministry had to pay special
attention on developing human resources and physical properties.
Human resource development, teacher training, should be treated as
key aspect since the knowledge is doubled in every five years, Minister
Premajayantha pointed out.
Deputy Education Minister Murugan Satiyanandan said that good
education creates a good nation and country. So the Ministry's
determination is to convert the younger generation into good citizens.
Education Service Minister Nirmala Kotalawala, Secretary to the
Ministry of Education Ariyarathne Hewage also addressed the gathering. |
