Chalitha, Indika win two titles each

Table Tennis: Bottom seed Chalitha Ranjana (Seylan Bank SC) and his team mate top seed Indika Prasad bagged two titles each at the Mercantile Open Table Tennis Championships worked off at the S.Thomas' College, Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia, last week.

In the Men's singles Chalitha emerged victorious after defeating his team mate Indika Prasad in a closely contested five setter (3-2). Chalitha Ranjana partnered by Indika Prasad overcame Rajeewa Wijetunga/Y.S. Jayakody (Ceylinco SC) in the Men's doubles final in straight sets.

Both champions and runner up in the Mixed Doubles too came from Seylan Bank when Indika Prasad partnered by Geishika Perera beat their team mates Chalitha Ranjana/Erandi Kaluarachchi convincingly in straight sets.

In the women's singles final Saranga de Silva (Commercial Bank) subdued K.L. Kalpani Nisansala (Ceylinco SC) in four sets (3-1).

The Seylan Bank couple Geishika Perera and Erandi Kaluarachchi received a walk over in the Women's doubles final.

Sashika Wijesuriya (Seylan) had a 2-1 victory against Amila Wijesundara (Commercial) in the Men's Novices singles final in a close contest, while Geishika Perera also from Seylan Bank SC became winner in the Women's Novices singles after beating A.U. Nilanthi (Sri Lanka Insurance) 2-0.

In the Veterans singles final Rajeewa Wijetunga (Ceylinco SC) beat M.M.Gamini Moraes (Astron SC) 2-1.
