4,000 villages being developed - Senior Presidential Advisor

KALUTARA: Under the "Mahinda Chintana" programme the Gama
Neguma project commenced developing 4,000 village projects throughout
the country, said Basil Rajapaksa Senior Advisor to the President
addressing a gathering at the Kalutara district secretariat auditorium
premises recently.
The meeting was held under the patronage of additional G. A. Kalutara
D. P. L. C. Perera. Rajapaksa said that the Gama Neguma and Maga Neguma
along with the national development programme are two projects of the "Mahinda
Chintana" programme, they are not political pledges even at the
election.
He said the "Mahinda Chintana" is a scheme to develop by consent
after educated personnel, various organisations and political parties.
It has been put forward expecting the development of every field
involved in development of the country as a whole.
The Advisor said, today, all ministries and Government officials have
become active in the implementation of this projects.
The Gama Neguma is ahead of all other projects, stated.
He said the President himself have visited the scene of the massacre
by the LTTE terrorists. They requested at least for a few bunkers built
for them as there was no security for them at that time. These people
who never left their abodes even when they were attacked by bombs.
The Advisor said President however discussed the matters with the
party members and the local bodies who are directly attached to the
party in Colombo. After the discussion they decided upon the development
of 4,000 villages accordingly.
Therefore they commenced visiting the districts all over the country
to hold such meetings to educate the people of the projects expedited.
In the year 2006 the growth rate rose up to 7.5 per cent.
He said, those that are working in the Middle East would earn foreign
currency to help development, along with the workers attached to the
estate sector we should be grateful to them. |
