COLOMBO: Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Minister and
National Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said the Government led
by President Mahinda Rajapaksa is fully committed to eradicate terrorism
and usher in lasting peace.
"The Security Forces ability to inflict defeats on Tiger terrorists
in several fronts without kneeling down to their pressure was a major
victory achieved by the country as a whole on the eve of its 59th
Independent anniversary.
Though these victories the Government hoped to usher in a lasting and
honourable peace in the country. "The Government is ready to make any
sacrifice on behalf of the people to achieve this aim," he said.
There should be genuine and lasting peace in the country if the
people were to derive full benefits of independence. But as a country we
could not act as cowards and kneel down before terrorism to achieve that
peace.
As we celebrate our 59th Independence Day with pride, we should also
recall with gratitude our fore fathers who helped us to attain
Independence on February 4, 1948 with great self sacrifice. |
