Troops in de-mining operations to resettle Vakarai displaced
The Armed Forces consolidating their positions
in the East after flushing the LTTE cadres out of Vakarai town,
announced on Thursday that the troops are now in the process of
removing landmines ahead of their operation's final phase of
resettling the displaced.

2,500 Army deserters back
Over 2,500 Army deserters have reported back by
yesterday under the General Amnesty period declared by the
Government. This period which was to end on January 31 was extended
to February 3 by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to give the deserters
an opportunity to join the Rana Setha Pada Yathra which was
organised to boost the public and the Forces' morale.
