Time marches on
Years come and go
Our thoughts seem to freeze
As 4th February peeps
What have we gained
What have we lost
Is there hope for the morrow
Echoes in one and all
We gained by Numbers
We lost many lives
Small, could have served miles
Mother Lanka seems to ail
From many ills and heartaches
'Awake, Awake,' she wails
To her children unawake
'Don't lose time, and Don't lose hope
Serve your motherland without complaint
United we stand, but divided we fall
The age-old saying needs recall'
Let's listen - once and for all
To this urgent plea and call
And do our Motherland proud
Else we perish as debris
In a tsunami of despair
