Independence Day - 2007
Andrew Scott
I pen these lines to proudly convey
The glory of Sri Lanka's
Independence Day.
When Temple, Kovil and Church bells ring
Amidst religious rites made in unison
To pray for Mother Lanka's future.
And to realize her ambitious vision
To rid our country of all issues
That hinder her march for peace.
Let today's hoisting of the Lion Flag
Bring peace and harmony to our land,
Dispelling the dark clouds of suspicion
That loom high over Sri Lanka's future mission.
There's no doubt,
That a future bright,
Awaits our hallowed isle,
If the ethnic strife is expelled
Bringing each of us a smile.
Sri Lanka, a country serene,
Blessed by nature's bounty unforseen
In any other land,
With verdant hills and sunny beaches
And ancient ruins casting myriad shadows,
On this our Independence Day
Should bravely resolve
To forge ahead
And to resurrect to life
A smiling country of grace
To adorn this global face. |
