Finalists found in SLT badminton tourney

BADMINTON: The finalists of the Sri Lanka Telecom Badminton
Championships were found as the preliminary and semi-final round matches
were completed at the St. Joseph's College Indoor Stadium and Royal
College Sports Complex over the weekend.
The tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Telecom Badminton
Association (SLTBA) started on Saturday at the St. Joseph's College with
SLT chairman Ashoka Weerasinghe de Silva being the chief guest.
Over 200 players from the SLT offices in the country participated in
the tournament and the matches were played in five categories which are
- Men's singles and doubles, Women's singles and doubles and Mixed
doubles.
The Chief Administrative Officer Lakshman Joseph showed his talents
by qualifing to play in two finals and the semi-finals of the men's
singles.
He will team up with Sobha Weerasinghe to compete with Pandula
Godakanda and Lakmali Kankanige.
The men's doubles final will be played between Lakshman Joseph/ R.S.
Karunarathne and Chamara Perera/ Indunil Wanasinghe.
Lakmali Kankanige and P.W. Priyani will team up against S.M.
Senevirathne and U.N. Rathnayake.
In the women's singles a tough battle is expected between Rani Soysa
and newcomer Uresha Soysa. |
