LTTE terrorists killed, arms recovered
BATTICALOA: Two Tiger terrorists including a senior LTTE cadre 'Major
Shankar' in Vatharamoolai, Batticaloa were killed on Sunday at around 10
p.m. when a group of LTTE cadres attempted to ambush an Army night
patrol.
Troops on night patrol successfully repulsed the LTTE small arms
attack forcing the terrorists to flee the area amidst troop retaliation.
In a subsequent search operation carried out in the area, troops
recovered a body of a Tiger cadre, a T-56 assault rifle, two packs, 140
rounds of live ammunition, five T-56 magazines, and a notebook with
extortion figures.
Following, a subsequent search operation carried out on Sunday
morning another body of a LTTE terrorist was recovered by troops,
military sources added.
The dead cadre was identified as 'Major Shankar', a senior cadre of
the LTTE who had been engaged in extorting money from civilians,
military sources added.
Meanwhile, during a search conducted by the Police in Trincomalee,
two hand grenades and two anti-personnel mines were recovered inside an
abandoned house at around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
The search was carried out on a tip-off given by a civilian in the
area.In another incident, Naval personnel operating in the seas off
Mannar seized a fibre glass dingy boat with ten on board off the seas of
Thalaimannar on Sunday evening.
The crew on board had stated that they were from South India. The
boat which had two outboard motors was also detained by the Navy.
