Gajaba Regiment to be awarded Presidential Colours today
COLOMBO: The Gajaba Regiment, a prestigious infantry regiment of the
Sri Lanka Army which has effectively contributed to the successful
operations to establish peace in the North and East during the past two
and half decades, will be awarded Presidential Colours today. The
ceremony will be held this evening at the Army Headquarters with the
participation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Late Major General Wijeya Wimalaratne founded the Gajaba Regiment on
October 14, 1983 which was first established in Saliyapura, Anuradhapura.
The Regiment now consists of 7 Regular Units and five Volunteer Units.
