Two soldiers killed

COLOMBO: Two soldiers were killed in separate incidents in Vavuniya and Welioya last morning.

According to a spokesman for the Media Centre for National Security, LTTE cadres detonated a claymore mine targeting Army-Police joint foot patrol in Pirappamaduwa, Vavuniya. A soldier was killed and two others injured in this incident. The injured were admitted to the Anuradhapura Hospital.

Meanwhile, the LTTE cadres fired with small arms at the Army guard point in Kalyanapura, Welioya last morning.

He said the troops successfully repulsed the attack causing heavy losses to the Tigers.

A soldiers was killed in this attack. During a subsequent search operation, a body of an LTTE cadre and a T-56 assault rifle were recovered by the soldiers, he added.
