Jathika Saviya programme makes great progress
COLOMBO: The Jathika Saviya programme which restores basic
infrastructure needs in the terrorist affected villages in 10 identified
districts has achieved 90 per cent progress.
A progress review meeting held recently at the Defence Ministry
revealed at development projects implemented in eight districts under
the 'Jathika Saviya' programme have now been completed marking a ninety
per cent progress.
This accelerated development programme aiming to restore damaged
electricity, road, housing, water supply, health, education and
transport facilities was launched on June 15 this year under the
direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa following the brutal claymore
mine attack on civilians by the LTTE in Kebithigollewa.
Over three hundred villages in ten districts; Anuradhapura,
Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Puttalam, Moneragala,
Vaunia, Jaffna and Kilinochchi were identified to be covered by the 'Jathika
Saviya.'
