Jathika Saviya programme makes great progress

COLOMBO: The Jathika Saviya programme which restores basic infrastructure needs in the terrorist affected villages in 10 identified districts has achieved 90 per cent progress.

A progress review meeting held recently at the Defence Ministry revealed at development projects implemented in eight districts under the 'Jathika Saviya' programme have now been completed marking a ninety per cent progress.

This accelerated development programme aiming to restore damaged electricity, road, housing, water supply, health, education and transport facilities was launched on June 15 this year under the direction of President Mahinda Rajapaksa following the brutal claymore mine attack on civilians by the LTTE in Kebithigollewa.

Over three hundred villages in ten districts; Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Puttalam, Moneragala, Vaunia, Jaffna and Kilinochchi were identified to be covered by the 'Jathika Saviya.'
