Grass carps for inland fishing industry
COLOMBO: The Sri Lanka Aquaculture Development Authority has
introduced a high yielding Chinese fish species called Grass carp to the
inland fishing industry as part of its accelerated aquaculture quality
development programme.
The reproduction of this species is now under way at the authority's
Udawalawa centre and will be continued at the Dambulla and Inginiyagala
centres shortly, said Authority's Chairman Munidasa Premachandra.
The first stocks of 15,000 Grass carp fingerlings so produced were
introduced to reservoirs in the Kurunegala district last Thursday. |
