Medical ethics vital for better health service - Healthcare Minister

COLOMBO: Medical Ethics is very important to establish a better health service in the country, said Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva addressing the Colombo session of the Commonwealth Dental Association held on December 2 at the BMICH, Colombo.

Healthcare Minister said that the Sri Lankan Government spends lavishly for free education going up to the University Education.

But he lamented that due to various pressures coming from several quarters the Ministry found it difficult to send doctors to serve where their services are greatly needed.

"Dental health is one aspect. It is lamentable that our school dental health service is badly neglected.

The public dental health service is also crippled. The reason for all this is due some outstanding issues. I have held several rounds of talks with the doctors' unions to resolve them", he said.

Minister de Silva also said that the Government would recruit more doctors to the State health service and some of them would be for better dental care.
