Lankans win eleven medals

FESPIC GAMES: Sri Lanka continued with their excellent performances while winning seven silver medals and three bronze medals on the fourth day of the FESPIC Sports Festival for the handicapped worked off at the Bukeet Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur here on Tuesday.

Sri Lanka have now increased their medals tally to two gold medals, 13 silver medals and six bronze medals at this Sports Festival. Sri Lanka collected four silver medals and two bronze medals from the athletic events and added a further three silver medals and one bronze medal from the swimming events.

Shantha Kumara who gave Sri Lanka their first gold medal on the opening day of this Sports Festival bagged two more silver medals while winning the men's 200 metres and the 800 metres respectively.

In addition Chaminda Priyadarshana also clinched two silver medals while coming second in the men's 50 metres freestroke and in the men's 100 metres freestroke. Sri Lanka's Jagath Chandana Wanninayake also bagged two silver medals in the swimming events.

Meanwhile in the athletic events Udaya Pushpakumara took the silver medal in the men's javelin throw final and G. A. Wesley won the bronze medal in the same event.

Over four thousand competitors from 63 countries in four different categories are vying for honours with Sri Lanka fielding a 81 member strong contingent for this Sports Festival which will be concluded on December 1.
