Palestine Solidarity Day today
COLOMBO: At this moment when billions of people around the
world who respect freedom and justice identify with the cause of the
Palestinian people, we also express our solidarity with the people of
Palestine today (November 29), stated Imtiasz Bakeer Markar, Joint
Chairperson of the Sri Lanka- Palestine Solidarity Committee in a
message to mark the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The message: This is another remarkable day as the United Nations
declared an International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people.
It is truly remarkable to find that Palestinians have perseveringly
resisted the oppression of Zionism backed by the most advanced military
and financial powers of the world for over six decades.
Today, despite the killings taking place every day, the poverty, the
imprisonments, the land grabs, the destruction and countless other
illegal acts which question the goodness of humanity, the Palestinian
people's thirst for freedom and the commitment to resistance remains as
powerful nation.
In the context of a world, where calls for democracy, freedom and
human rights is heard ever so often, their suffering is a scar on the
conscience of humanity.
Former South African President Nelson Mandela said the oppression by
the Palestinians was worse than that faced by his fellow black South
Africans during the appalling period of Apartheid.
Our cries for freedom and justice in our country will be heard by
more ears around the world, when we are willing to listen to similar
cries from those plights deserve our solidarity." |
