LTTEer killed in explosion

BATTICALOA: An LTTE suspect was killed in an explosion at his parents' residence in Ilayawan Podi Road, Eravur-1 on Wednesday night, OIC Eravur D. Ratnayake said.

According to him the deceased M. I. M. Naseer (38) a father of three had gone to his parents' home with a friend. There had been no one at home when the duo arrived. "While he was talking to his friend Naseer had received a phone call and asked his friend to stay out for a moment. Within a few minutes an explosion was heard and Naseer was killed on the spot," OIC Ratnayake said.

It is suspected that deceased had LTTE connections and was hiding some explosives at his parents' home. According to the OIC the explosion would have gone off while he was handling it.

The Government Analyst had obtained the fragments from the scene to identify the type of explosive, he added.

He said a woman from the neighbourhood also sustained minor injuries when the roof of her house collapsed by the explosion.

The Eravur Police conducting investigations.
