COLOMBO: The Colombo District Secretariat plans to introduce new
registration certificates for Births, Marriages and Deaths using modern
Information Technology (IT) under the guidelines drawn by the Home
Affairs Ministry.
Addressing a media conference at the Colombo District Secretariat to
review the progress of the new processing system, Colombo District
Secretary P.J.A. Sylvester said the public could receive their
certificates of Births, Marriages and Deaths five minuets after
completing the forms.
He said that more than 60,000 original certificates are stored at the
13 Divisional Secretariats and manually issuing them was a time
consuming process.
Sylvester said even after implementing the new computer aided system,
the originals will be preserved securely.
The new system was initially implemented in the Divisional
Secretariats of Colombo, Thimbirigasyaya, Dehiwala, Ratmalana, and
Moratuwa.
Sylvester said he was expecting to launch the new system on December
21 from the Colombo Divisional Secretariat.
