Buildings Dept undertakes projects abroad

COLOMBO: The Buildings Department has successfully undertaken the
renovation and construction of several buildings abroad.
Most of these were Sri Lankan missions abroad. The construction of a
Chancery in Canberra, the refurbishment of the Ambassador's residence in
Washington and the Sri Lankan High Commission building in New Delhi were
among them.
The Department recently completed several projects successfully in
Sri Lanka. These included the Matara District Secretariat, Office
building for Ministry of Justice at Pelawatta, Operating theatres and
wards at the Vijaya Kumaratunga Teaching Hospital and a four storeyed
building for the Department of Inland Revenue in Galle.
The construction of the Natural Science Block for the faculty of
Science in the University of Jaffna, a six storeyed building for the
Ministry of Justice in Colombo, the Gangodawila court complex and Judges
bungalows in Negombo are progressing.
The Housing and Construction Ministry is taking measures to construct
houses for public sector employees as envisaged in the Mahinda Chinthana.
Under this project 775 houses will be initially constructed for
public sector employees. Wellampitiya, Ampara, Edmonton road and
Avissawella have been selected.
