Police seek help to identify tsunami child

BINGIRIYA: A person who allegedly abducted a five-year-old boy after the tsunami disaster was arrested by police in Bingiriya yesterday.

The 42-year-old man who was arrested with the child in the Kadayaya area has, on being questioned, told police that the child was his own son and that they came to Bingiriya from the South after the tsunami.

"He told police that the child's mother had died in the 2004 tsunami. However, we suspect that the child might have been abducted soon after the tsunami," Bingiriya OIC K.M.D.W. Kumarasiri said.

Police are seeking public help to identify the child.
