Peterites to clinch rugby double today
RUGBY: St. Peter's College, Colombo will go all out to clinch
the rugby double when they confront Kingswood College, Kandy in the
final of the Milo President's Trophy Rugby Tournament at the Royal
College Sports Complex, Colombo 7 on October 14 (Saturday) at 4.45 p.m.
The Peterites are in a buoyant mood with a smashing 30-14 win over
the Antonians in the semi-finals and will go all out to topple the
Kignswoodians and avenge the defeat suffered in the league tournament
two months ago. But they will receive stiff resistance from the
Kignswoodians who stormed into the final with a sensational 19-17 win
over formidable Isipatanians in the semi-final.
Winger Gerard Canute has played a key role in their success and
scored two superb tries in the semi-final with his powerful runs down
the flank and the Kignswoodians will have to keep a close chock on him.
The Kingswoodians have won the President's Trophy for the last three
years and will strive to make it four-in-a-row by overcoming the
Peterites.
The lads from Kandy too have enjoyed an excellent season in which
they have suffered just one defeat at the hands of the Antonians.
They will rely on fly half Dev Anand who has piloted them to victory
on several occasions with his excellent place-kicking. |
